Overview
The Singapore American School Counseling Department believes that sound education involves the development of the whole student. This includes the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical aspects of a student's life. Counseling services are accessible to all students and their families.
The school wide program strives to provide continuity of services from preschool through high school graduation. Counselors provide support to students, teachers, and parents through both individual contacts and group meetings. In the primary school, counselors facilitate the SAS character traits and social and emotional competencies through monthly classroom lessons. Counselors meet with students individually and in small groups to enhance social skills and self esteem. Parenting workshops are offered throughout the school year and counselors are available to meet with parents on an individual basis. For those students who require support services, primary school counselors facilitate the Student Review Team (SRT) process where student needs are discussed and an action plan is created. We have a comprehensive counseling library where parents can check out books and offer referrals to outside agencies.
